COD reduced from 2,000+ to under 50 mg/L in under two weeks — first-time biological treatment success.
Coca-Cola bottling plant — archived partner study · San Salvador, El Salvador · 1 May 2024
The challenge
Effluent COD levels exceeded 2,000 mg/L. Previous chemical and mechanical interventions had failed to bring the facility into compliance. Regulatory pressure was mounting.
The approach
MICROBE-LIFT® biological programme designed and supervised by Ecological Laboratories. Bioaugmentation replaced failed chemical treatment, targeting high-strength organic waste in the effluent system.
Results
2,000+ → <50 mg/L
COD reduction
>90%
Treatment efficiency
Under 2 weeks
Time to compliance
None
Chemicals required
This case demonstrates the speed at which MICROBE-LIFT® technology can transform a failing system. Eco Balance Ltd supplies the same IND formulations for food and drink processors across the UK and Ireland.
